YouTube Video: Pansy's 13 Day Old Persian Girls - Black or Tortoiseshell???
Wow. Pansy decided to throw me a curve ball with her babies. All good though. It started on Christmas Eve when I went to weight and play with her two baby girls. I noticed white fur on the throat of her borderline extreme face girl. I thought, "how could that be?". I checked all over for any evidence of red fur but found none. The next day my x-husband, Tommy, came over. It was the first time he had seen the babies. I told him about the white fur I had seen the night before. He said that the one girl had red fur on her face. I said I didn't see any and I really looked for it. So together he tried to show me but I just could not see the red that he saw. Well, everyday I have been checking and low and behold, I am seeing red shading on that black baby. Are my eyes deceiving me? Wow. I have had quite a few Tortoiseshells born at the Cattery, but I have never seen this happen. I took some pictures of the babies a few days ago and are showing them above. I see a lot of tabby stripping where I am seeing red shading. I also took a video this afternoon of the babies. Interesting, isn't it. The borderline extreme has her eyes full open and the doll face has her eyes partially open. You can see the newest YouTube video by clicking on the link above. Enjoy.
Well, Toy Drummer was moved to Tommy's house in November hoping that in a new environment, he would start breeding. Tommy built him a special room right off the bathroom with a screen door so he stays separated from the rest of his pets. It was a good call. Toy loves being at his house. I bring the girls over there to bred now when they come in to heat. Anything to keep Toy happy and breeding after almost 2 years of trying everything possible. How he got three girls pregnant at the beginning of 2015 is amazing to me. Anyway, Rose was with him two weeks ago. Petunia was with him last week. I brought her home yesterday from Tommy's house. Tommy said that the first two days, Petunia swatted at Toy but after that, they really got along good and he caught Toy on top of her numerous times. So fingers crossed, we hope these girls are now pregnant. We will check Rose for pregnancy on January 6th and Petunia on January 15th. If they are pregnant and go full term, Rose will be due around Feb. 17th and Petunia on or around Feb. 26th. Both girls are now up in my bedroom enjoying being pampered.

Pansy and Willie's two Black Persian babies turned one week old today. They are big, fat and so very healthy. Just what we like. They are also the sweetest most easy going litter that I have seen so far. They were both purring on Day 3 while at the nipple. They don't mind being touched and petted. The doll face doubled her weight on Day 5 and the other girl doubled her birth weight today. The borderline extreme face girl is just starting to open her eyes on Day 7. What an easy litter to care for. Pansy is just the best and most easy going mom to her babies. She makes it look so easy. I can't wait till these babies eyes are all open and they are starting to walk. Pansy and Willie's Black Persian babies usually end up with intense deep copper eye color and sometimes that famous silver coat that Saffron has. I also took a picture of Pansy while she was lying in the bed. She doesn't take pictures that do her justice. You can watch their latest video by clicking on the link above.

Pansy's babies are so healthy and doing so well. They are beautiful with beautiful silky coats. These girls little bodies are so plump. Pansy is just the perfect mom. Such an easy litter to take care of ... what a dream. Well, really, Pansy is taking care of everything. I just go in to weigh them three times and day and just lay on the floor and stare at them. I love to see how they interact with their mommy and themselves. The two sisters are very close. They love snuggling together. Already, the doll face is sooo easy going and laid back. I laughed today. She was on her back nursing with no hands and relaxed as can be. Last night she was laying on her back with her feet up in the air, nursing away. I need to get my camera to take some shots when she does this. It is so funny. They don't mind being touched and petted, even at this young age. Both girls have been purring since Day 3. Today, the doll face girl doubled her birth weight and she is only on Day 5. WOW! I expect the other girl will follow with doubling her birth weight either tomorrow or the next day. When they were born, there was 16 grams separating them. Now there is only 10 grams separating them. What a delightful and easy litter.
Today, Rose (Black Persian) came out of heat. She has been in with Toy (Blue and White BiColor Perisan) since last Sunday when she started heat. I think they did mate at least twice on the night of the 16th. I will check her for pregnancy around January 6th. If she is pregnant and carries full term, her babies should arrive Feb. 17. So stay tuned.

Pansy and Willie's Newborn Babies

Pansy's Babies YouTube Video Link
Pansy delivered two female Black Persian babies on the evening of December 15th. I had been in and out of her room checking on her all day long and saw no signs of labor having started. At 8:40 p.m., I went to my bedroom to check on her again. I didn't see her so I started calling her and then I heard it. Small cries and then louder cries. Then I saw Pansy make her way to me. Her rear end was wet. It was baby cries I was hearing. I put her in her birthing cage and went to find the baby that was crying under the bed. I had to take everything out from under the bed. There two black Persian babies were together crying away. They were dry and no blood or sacks were to be found. One still had the placenta hanging from it. I brought them back over to the birthing cage and clamped off the placenta. The babies went immediately to nursing on Pansy. This is a first for the Cattery. No mother has ever delivered her babies without me being there to assist. I know earlier in the day I had put her in the birthing cage when I had found her in the back of my closet. Well, Pansy is smart and it only took her a second to figure out how to open the zipper on the birthing cage. After I had the babies settled with mother in the birthing area on a heating pad, I went looking high and low for any other babies. I did find two placentas under the bed but no other babies. I don't know if there was a third. I was so glad that these babies were safe and that Pansy had taken care of them and got them breathing and cleaned up all by herself. They are still in the birthing cage in my room till I can get their Nursery ready. Hopefully tonight they will be transferred there. It is definitely hard to sleep in a room where the heaters are going full blast to keep them warm. So for the babies, Pansy and Willie had two Black Persians. I am pretty confident they are both girls since I did see a slit yesterday in their private area. One baby is definitely a doll face and the other is either a doll face/borderline or extreme. Pansy has a ton of milk so these babies have just had a feast. As of last night's weigh which was taken around 24 hours after birth, they had gained 12 to 14 grams. One baby was born 14 grams less than the other and is fast catching up. Because of all the milk, these babies fill up and then fall back to sleep. So this is not a litter than is nursing 24/7, which allows Pansy a lot of time to relax. I will try to get some pictures once they are settled in their Nursery tonight, as well as maybe a video. So far, this is by far the easiest litter I have had to deliver. Pansy did all the work without me knowing about it. LOL. I truly didn't plan it this way and that is for sure.

Down to the Wire
December 13, 2015
Well, we are down to the wire with Pansy's babies expected this coming week. They should arrive between Tuesday and Thursday, but you just never know. Pansy is doing great!!! Her weight gain percentage as of this morning was 33.47% increase from her before pregnancy weight. She has still gained more, as a percentage gain, then when she was carrying her litter of five. Though, her litter of five is almost up to where she is now. I have a past history of not predicting the amount of kittens in the womb with accuracy unless the mother is x-rayed during pregnancy. The worst was with Pansy's singleton, Saffron. Her weight gain that pregnancy made me think she was carrying 4 to 5 kittens. What a shock it was when only one arrived. I did have a few days heads up after the x-ray to adjust my thinking and come to acceptance of a singleton. This time around, Pansy is definitely not even on both sides. So I feel pretty confident she is carrying 3 or 5 kittens. I know she is carrying at least 2 since I have felt one moving on each side for several weeks. I love putting my hands on Pansy's womb and feeling them kick. It is a ritual with Pansy and I. Pansy started the Kitty Bloom Wate 5 days ago, so it always makes the babies more active since it helps them have energy for delivery. Time has flown by and I will be up late tonight getting her birthing supplies all arranged and ready to go. This morning she wanted under the sheets with me in bed. She kept trying to get comfortable, but the babies were making it very uncomfortable. So they were already re-positioning themselves for delivery. So my dates might be off and she may deliver earlier than Tuesday. Her milk has been in now for several days. The birthing process may not be Pansy's favorite part but boy does she adore being a mother and being pregnant. So we are praying for a safe and healthy delivery of some beautiful and sweet kittens from Pansy and Willie.
Oh by the way, Willie was taken down to The Sound Cat this past Monday for his regular HCM heart scan. Willie is now over 6 years old. His heart was perfectly normal and Dr. Williams again said he would never have HCM because he has a normal shaped cat heart, not a Persian shaped heart. Chester, Pansy's grandfather and Primrose's father, was also taken down for his regular HCM heart scan. He is now 8 years old. He was negative for HCM and there had been no changes to his heart since his last scan in August 2014. He was in full red and white coat. I should have taken some pictures of him with Dr. Williams. Here is an older picture of Chester when Camelot was a baby. He doesn't have a lot of pictures. I need to get over to Tommy's house to take some updated pictures of Chester and Camelot. Dr. Williams was impressed with Chester. Chester was weighted and was a whopping 13.4 lbs. WOW!! So now we know why Primrose is now weighting 11.5 lbs and that Primrose's babies end up being big cats (10 to 13 lbs). Primrose's normal weight when she was a breeder was between 7.5 and 8 lbs. She was spayed this summer. So now you know why I was so surprised to see her gain so much weight after her spay. While at The Sound Cat, Monti Verdi, our retired Teaser Tom, got his neuter surgery. He was adopted by Tommy and he is doing very well in new home with Chester, Camelot and Petunia ... all retired breeders of our Cattery. Tommy loves cats and they get lots of love in his house. Of course on the way home from The Sound Cat, Monti got on top of Chester in the car thinking he was a girl and he could mate him. LOL. It will probably take several weeks for Monti's hormones to go done. Tommy says he has smelled everyone's butt at his house and Monti now knows that there are no whole girls at that house. We wish Monti the very best in his new home.

Quick Updates
November 30, 2015
In the last few days, I had the pleasure of feeling a Pansy baby move in the womb. I think it is always one the sweetest times for me as a breeder. It really is amazing. I usually let out gasps that startle Pansy as a baby kicks. She should be delivering in about 2 weeks. She doesn't seem as big as normal but her percentage of weight gain is still more than any of her previous pregnancies that I have weight records for ... including her litter of 5. She is going to keep me guessing. Her weight is up 23.75% of her prepregnancy weight. She has gained 1.76 lbs. We still have to get her Nursery all ready for her babies. So much to do.

Pansy Update
November 23, 2015
It is hard to believe that in a few minutes, I am going to be taking out my frozen turkey and putting it in the refrigerator. It is so hard to believe Thanksgiving is upon us. The weather this Fall has been beautiful and has stayed warm during the days much longer than normal. So it makes it seem that Thanksgiving is coming early this year. In fact, on Thanksgiving Day, our area is suppose to be in the high 60s to 70s. Great time to catch up on all that yard work at the end of the week. We hope everyone has a safe and happy and thankful Thanksgiving. We have a lot to be thankful for in this country, even in the midst of all the troubles of this world.
As far as my gang is doing ... they are trying to adjust to the temperature drop at night. We started hitting some freezing temps at night outside. Pansy is doing great. She completed her 6th week of pregnancy yesterday and is now starting in her 7th week. She only has about 22 to 24 more days to go. As for her size ... well, she is stilling gaining more than any of her previous pregnancies so far. This past week she topped 1 1/2 lbs increase. As of last night, she is up 20.78% increase in weight from her pre-pregnancy weight. This past week she started doing her normal stretch rolling on the carpet. She will stretch out on her back and roll one way and then go the opposite way. I wonder if she can feel her babies movements now and is trying to wake them up. She loves being pregnant and she loves being a mom. Maybe when they are sleeping, she wants to feel their movements to make sure they are ok. You really could not ever ask for a better mom than Pansy. Her expected due date is around December 15th or thereafter. We are both looking forward to their arrival. There is much to be done around here in the meanwhile.

Quick Pansy Update

Our sweet pregnant Pansy is doing great! This evening she weighted in at over 10% increase over her first day of mating weight. This is the largest weight increase on Day 24 for all the pregnancies she has had. Even with her pregnancy of 5 kittens, her weight on Day 24 was at 7%. So this pregnancy is looking very promising for a good size litter. This past week we started giving her EVO 95% wet food along with a mix of vitamins, folic acid and taurine. We are so excited to have new kittens being born right before Christmas. Of course, Pansy is taking it all in stride. She knows she is pregnant and is very happy about it. She knows I always feed her wet food when she is pregnant so she was asking for it well before her nipples pinked up. She knew at the time she was pregnant and I only had a hope, no confirmation. Her appetite should start really increasing in the next week. Stay tuned for more weight updates.

Monti's Pedigree
Y Monti is a 4 year old Cream and White extreme face pure Persian. Half of his pedigree is from the famous Bagira line in Poland. Monti came to us in February 2014 as a future breeder. Unfortunately, Monti could not be used as a breeder since he arrived with inflamed and extremely painful Stomachitus, a hereditary disease. Dr. Karen Becker has written a great article on Stomachitus along with a video. Please click on her name to see the video and article. Monti had all his teeth removed (except his fangs) a few weeks after he arrived here and is doing so much better. I am unsure why the Vet did not remove his fangs also. Maybe she left them for his protection. I did not have the heart to put him through another major surgery to have his fangs removed. He also had a vasectomy at the same time as the removal of his teeth so he could not produce kittens. He was made into our Teaser Tom so he could mate the girls and get them out of heat without getting them pregnant. He loved this job and got quite good at it. Monti has never sprayed since he has been here thankfully. Unfortunately, since he had been at two Catteries before ours, we were always worried that he might be a carrier of viruses from those other two Catteries. So we decided it was best for our Cattery to retire him. Please continue to read because Monti is one of the sweetest cats I have ever know. He is definitely a lap cat and loves, loves, loves to be loved. He will cuddle right up against you on the couch and roll over to wait for you to rub his belly. He is an absolute sweetheart. He eats dry food (either Young Again or EVO Turkey and Chicken) without a problem and in fact has gained 2 pounds since coming to our Cattery. I would strongly recommend he stay on either of this top line foods that are high protein and very low carb. He is totally muscular since being on this food. He has gorgeous large round copper eyes and a cotton coat. I would recommend weekly bathes and daily face washes. He tends to get black crud around his eyes and mouth. He would do well to have a bowl that has a small opening at the top for him to drink from that way he is not putting his chin in the water. That way his chin would not stain or get the black crud. A daily face wash is needed. He does not mind bathes too much and will need a weekly one since his coat tends to get oily. He did have a lion's cut over the summer but his fur is very slow to grow in. So if you can manage to comb him every day, I would recommend letting his coat grow out. Some days I can tell he doesn't feel good because of his stomachitus. There are herbal treatments that might help. Dr. Becker talks about them in the video. He also has a very extreme nose with smaller nostrils so he does tend to have some nasal issues. Beyond those two issues, I think any family would be thrilled to have this sweetheart. He gets along with everyone and loves to cuddle up with my small dog and really anything that he can. He is listed on the Special Needs page and not the Adult Available page because of his Stomachitus. Beyond trying some possible herbal remedies, there really is not anything that you can do for the Stomachitus that I have not already done. Monti is up to date on all his vaccines.

Primrose is a 6 year old retired breeder. Over the years, she has had some beautiful babies. She is known for all those videos on YouTube where she is protective of her babies. She has been spayed. She has put on weight since her spay and now weighs almost 10 lbs. Her fur also started popping out all over, including her cheeks after her spay. She is a beautiful cat. We now know where her babies got their cheek wings from. She is not a lap cat but a play cat. She is independent. She does love to be petted but does not like to be held. She will mother a very young kitten even though it is not her own. So if the family wants to introduce a new kitten to the home down the road, I think Primrose would take it under her wing. She loves the D'Bird and it is a must have for her. She has beautiful copper eyes and a beautiful coat. We have shaved her in a lion's cut this summer and she did look adorable. She is a healthy girl and a healthy eater. She has had numerous negative HCM scans over the years. Her Sales Contract will require the adoptive family to continue to provide her with a HCM scan every two years or until a Persian HCM DNA test is available. Copies of the results of testing is to be provided to the Cattery. We are requesting this condition since Primrose's offspring is breeding at our Cattery and we want to continue to ensure that our lines are free of HCM. Once a Persian HCM DNA test is available, the family will be required to perform this test and send the results to the Cattery. After that, scanning will not be required unless the results show that it is needed.
As mentioned, Primrose is a favorite on our YouTube videos. We have provided her most famous video above for your enjoyment. You can see more of her videos by going directly to our YouTube channel. Also her pictures are provided throughout our website, a slide show in the Available Adults page and in her Nurseries.
If interested in adopting Primrose, please feel out our Kitten Application, being as detailed as possible.

We Have A Pregnancy
October 30, 2015
I wanted to give you all some good news on the Cattery front. Pansy pinked up today. I figure she is on Day 18 of her pregnancy. She was mated to Willie from Oct 11-15. So she is in the early stages of her pregnancy. I have been taking her weight twice a day and will continue to do so. She knows she is pregnant and is now begging for wet food. It always happens when she is pregnant. I think she knew about a week ago when she turned super affectionate. From my calculations, she should deliver around Dec. 15 or shortly thereafter. So we should hopefully see babies at Christmas time. What a nice Christmas gift. The kittens would be able to go to their new homes roughly mid to end of March. Pansy with Willie usually have babies that are Black Persians and Seal Point Himalayans. There will be no chocolates, but all will be chocolate carriers. They have had a red Persian in the past. Usually is it 50% blacks and 50% seals. Her and Willie's babies are known for their loving, friendly personalities. They get the loving personality from Pansy and the friendly outgoing personality from Willie. They usually are very, very smart babies. They usually potty train in a day sometimes two. You can go on line to look at the litters they have had together. Pansy makes a fantastic mother!!! You can her and Willie's babies in Our Nurseries. There is usually a mixture of doll faces and extreme faces in the litters.
Today I ordered a special herb that is suppose to be an aphrodisiac that I can put in the water of the other girls to hopefully get them cycling and going in to heat. Toy has been allowed to roam freely at night with the other girls but either the girls are not in heat or they are going through silent heats. Toy will definitely be getting the potion since he shows no interest but to play in the water bowl. LOL. Of course, Willie and Miracle are all too willing to comply but since Willie and Miracle are related to most of them, but Diamond, they will have to sit it out for a while. If Toy doesn't cooperate, then Miracle can mate to some of the more distant related girls.
If you have any questions, please let me know. Susan

Cattery Update
October 11, 2015
Pansy finally came in to heat yesterday. She woke me up in the middle of the night calling. I forgot how loud they can be when they are calling. I brought her down to Willie Wonka late this morning and she was very receptive. It was a little bit early in her heat cycle but I decided to try it anyway. They went right at it. So far they have mated three times today. They will mate for the next three days. Hopefully I have some good news to report in three weeks time. Once one girl goes in to heat, it is not unusual for the rest of the girls to start also. Toy is now roaming free with the girls, except Pansy and Iris. He does not appear to interested in them. I think the litters he has sired for us at the Cattery should be considered miracle litters. LOL. When Diamond goes in to heat next, she will also be mated to Willie Wonka. I expect this will be her and Pansy's last litters before retirement. Pansy is an excellent mom but she has had her fair share of litters over the last couple of years. She is a trooper. We will just have to see how she does on her next litter. Of course, Diamond is not the best mother so to relieve stress on me, I will be retiring her early after her next litter. She does have gorgeous babies though.
Hope everyone is exciting for the cooler Fall weather. I know my cats and I are. Love it when you can open the windows upstairs at night and feel the breeze coming in.
Otherwise, life is starting to settle down here and I will now have a chance to play catch up on the housework and Cattery work, including blogging more and finally getting those new kitten's personal pages done. So stay tuned.
BEWARE OF DOGGIEFOOD.COM
October 2, 2015
I just wanted you all to beware of doggiefood.com and that I no longer recommend it as a company to get your cat and dog food from. You ask why? I do not recommend them for the fact that they do not stand behind the food they sale. On Sept 5, 2015, I ordered 9 each of the 15.4 bags of EVO Turkey and Chicken Cat and Kitten dry food. One bag had a shorter expiration date than the others did. I opened that bag this week to start using it and found that it was 50% broken down kibble dust. My call to the Customer Service Department at Doggiefood.com was not pleasant due to the fact that they would not stand behind the product they sold me. The man I spoke to on the other end was, in my opinion, belligerent to me. He even at one point said we had a mutual beneficial relationship since I got 25% off on their sale. Unbelievable. All I was asking for was a replacement bag for the defective bag since my cats are refusing to eat the dust. I would not eat the dust if I was a cat. The Customer Service Rep was not willing to replace the bag themselves even though I bought it from them. He said he wanted pictures of the product and product code and then he would go higher up at Doggiefood and then talk to EVO. I didn't have a problem with sending the pictures. I had a problem with the attitude and poor Customer Service. From my understanding, if anywhere along the line at Doggiefood.com or EVO, someone said "no" to replacing my bag, I would not be getting a replacement bag for the defective bag. Now, how is that for Customer Service. Any way, buyer beware. I don't know if I will ever get a replacement bag, but one thing I do know, I will never again recommend them to buy anything from.

CATCHING UP
September 29,2015
It seems kind of unreal that it has already been a month since I last blogged. Iam still playing catch up after a whirlwind Spring and Summer of 4 very busy litters. Then right after the last two kittens left, the first week of August, I was knee deep in rental business (Selling and then Buying). There is never a dull moment around this place. I hope within the next month, to introduce all our new families and their babies from this past summer. Pictures from the new families have been coming in as well as nice comments about their babies. Even my sweet Peony left. I miss her but she is very happy being loved by two special people with no other pets or children. She is the prima dona now. I am so happy for her but it is truly bitter sweet.
Monti, our Teaser Tom, will soon be neutered and available for adoption. He is now in my Family Room with Primrose and Buttercup. I think he is enjoying his retirement. The picture above was taken this week while I was on the sofa with Monti and my small dog, Wysteria. I thought it was cute. Monti is a cuddler. He loves getting as close as possible to me and turning over for me to rub his belly. He really is one of the sweetest cats I have ever known.
So I will say goodbye for now. There is still a ton of things to do in this busy Cattery.

How to Trim the Nails on a Persian or Himalayan
Cat or Kitten Video
July 29, 2015
We have just published our newest "How To" video on trimming the nails of a cat or kitten. The video is available on our YouTube channel or in Our Videos Page under How To Videos. Unfortunately, the babies were played out, tired and squirmy. At least everyone can see how to handle a kitten in that situation. LOL. Featured in the video is Penny, a Black Persian. Blue Bell, a Blue Point Bi-Color Himalayan makes a splash presentation. LOL. I want to personally thank Shellsea Huntington for being sweet enough to film the video for me. She is one of our newest Adoptive Family members. The Huntington-Mersereau adopted both Magnolia and Leo.

Victorian Carriage Photo Shoot
Hydrangea, Holly and Diamond's Litters
July 20,2015
Today was bath day in preparation to going to The Sound Cat tomorrow for all three litter's Wellness Check. After bath, we had our Victorian Carriage Photo Shoot. The lighting was not the best since it was evening, but I hope you will enjoy the photos. They can be seen in Diamond's Nursery, Holly's Nursery and Hydrangea's Nursery. You have got to check out Blue Bells amazing ear tuffs that just showed up this week. Wow. She got those from her grandmother Peony. They almost dwarf her face. You can see Blue Bells pictures in Hydrangea's Nursery. Holly and Hydrangea's babies leave on Sunday and Diamond's babies leave the following Monday. It will definitely be more quiet around here after the babies leave. I have a lot of housework and yard work to catch up on before the next litters arrive.

Busy, Busy, Busy
July 11, 2015
It has been an extremely busy last two weeks at the Cattery. We have made lots of long distance trips. It started on June 30, 2015, with a trip down to The Sound Cat in Wilmington, NC. We had a car load. First we had Pansy's babies who had their first litter check at the doctor. The we had Primrose for a spay and Sweet Isaiah for is neuter and vasectomy. In about a month, he will be our new Teaser Tom. He will be able to mate the girls but not get them pregnant. That will help my girls by getting them out of heat and helping diminish uterus infections from all the hormones during heat. We also took Peony down for an HCM scan as well as Hollyhock for her first scan and Hydrangea for her second scan. After the Vet appointment, and while we waited for the surgeries to be done, we all spent a great afternoon with Bonnie and her two precious Seal Points (Sophie and Indy) from Pansy's litter last fall. We had a very nice healthy lunch and then took our strollers and went to Wrightsville Beach for a stroller walk. It was so fun. Pansy's kittens got their first ever stroller walk. They did great. After the walk, I ran and got Isaiah and Primrose from The Sound Cat. After a nice afternoon with Bonnie and her babies we all headed home.
This past Tuesday, July 7th, Pansy's two boys, Oliver and Nicholas, and I, headed to Asheville, North Carolina (a 6 hour drive) to meet their new mom, Leslie Bond. We meet up at the Biltmore Estate Entrance. We even had some nice ladies stop by to see the babies and they offered to take pictures for us. Oliver and Nicholas then traveled on to their new home in Tennessee. I have to say, those boys were excellent in the car. No stress at all. In fact, they were playing tumble with each other in the back and playing with their new toys. The ride did not bother them one bit. When Nicholas would cry for attention, I would pick him up and hold him like a baby on my hip. He would then put his arms around my neck and lay his head down on my shoulder, all while I was driving with my other hand. Of my. What an absolute sweet heart. Bonnie is so lucky to have these two precious Pansy babies. They are doing great at their new home. Bonnie is in love with them. We will create Pansy's Adopted Kittens pages for these boys in the near future.
Then today, Saturday, July 11th, the whole Mersereau family blessed the babies with their presence and I truly mean "Blessed". All the babies loved this family. They all were held, loved and played with. They even manned the camera while I did a "How to" video on how to trim a baby's nails. They even did a video of the babies playing. These babies were tired since it was their normal nap time, but with all the fun and action going on, they just keep on going. Stay tuned for some fun pictures of the babies from this family. They had come to visit the Cattery to pick up their baby, Magnolia, Pansy's baby girl and Oliver and Nicholas's sister. They also got to visit with their other baby, Leo, Holly and Toy's Cream Point Himi boy. It was a fun day for all involved.
Please enjoy the photo slide show of Rezzi's pictures when she came to the Cattery on June 14th with her husband and on June 26th, as well as the Wilmington stroller ride shots with Bonnie and her babies, Leslie with her new babies and then some candids along the way.

Cattery Updates
June 26, 2015
The Cattery was a busy place today. One of our adoptive parents, Rezzi, came to see her precious baby and help with bathing 9 kittens. It was fun to spend this time with her and have some fun with the babies. Carol, another adoptive parent, came to take a look at the kittens, to see if one in particular spoke to her heart. We all had a nice lunch together with ingredients right from the garden. Rezzi will be sending pictures of the day. We will plan on posting those tomorrow as well as the pictures she took the last time she was here.
Tomorrow, Pansy's babies will be 12 weeks old. How time as flown. They will get their second set of shots. Then on Sunday, Holly's three babies turn 9 weeks old. They will get their first set of shots. Tuesday, Pansy's babies go for their Vet check and Hydrangea, Holly and Peony go to The Sound Cat for their HCM ultrasounds. Primrose will get spayed on Tuesday and our Sweet Isaiah will have surgery to become our new Teaser Tom. There is a lot going on at this busy Cattery as you can see.
One of the favorite toys of these four litters is Da Bird. It has been a smash hit since they were first introduced to it. You can find the toy called the Da Bird on sale at Dr. Fosters and Smith and at some pet stores. Carol was sweet enough today to bring us two new refills for the toy. They are needed since once a cat grabs hold of the bird, they usually do not want to let go. Thank you Carol for your thoughtfulness.
The picture above was taken one morning as I entered the Toddler Room. Yes, they had gotten in to my armoire and got into three rolls of paper towels. What is not shown in the picture is the third roll they completed unrolled that was at the other end of the room. There were claw marks and teeth marks all over the towels. Some little beings had a fun night.

Available Kittens
Purry Paw Prints Photo Shoot
June 15, 2015
We are starting to wrap up our Priority Wait List picks on the four available litters. We do have kittens remaining. Hopefully by this weekend, we will have all of them listed on our Available Kittens page. If interested in one of the kittens, you will need to turn in a Kitten Application to start the process.
Saturday, Schann and Summer, from Purry Paw Prints came for a nice visit with the four litters. We had a great time together. As many of you know, Schann and her family adopted Primrose's Tabitha and Pansy's Penelope last year. Penelope and Iris look like they could be twins. Schann has provided the photos to me for putting on the logo. Once I have gotten her logo on all the pictures, I will be posting the Photo Shoot in the Purry Paw Prints page and in the individual Nurseries. She also got wonderful pictures of Holly with her babies. It was quite emotional for me to see Holly and her babies together for the first time since they were a day or two old. I think the pictures will speak for themselves of how precious that moment was. She truly knew her babies and missed them. This week, I will be getting her ready to move down to the Toddler Room for her to be with her babies until they leave. She was a loving precious mother to them on Saturday afternoon. We also got some nice updated pictures of Sweet Isaiah. He is such a handsome boy.

Pansy's Kitten's Victorian Carriage Photo Shoot
9 1/2 Weeks Old
June 10, 2015
Pansy's 9 1/2 week old kittens Victorian Carriage Photo Shoot is now available for viewing in Pansy's Nursery 2015. Just click on the picture above to go to the Nursery. The camera and the kittens were not exactly cooperative. The kittens didn't want to stay still and the camera didn't want to focus on them. The camera wanted to focus on everything put them. Oh well. Hopefully I will have better luck next time. Schann and Summer of Purry Paw Points are coming on Saturday to enjoy the day with all four litters. I am sure they will have some awesome photos to share with all of us.

Victorian Chamber Pot Photo Shoots
June 6, 2015
Today was a very busy day for six of the babies at the Cattery. Holly, Diamond and Hydrangea's babies all had their first full and complete bath and blow dry. Believe me, after all the weaning of wet food going on, they truly needed a deep cleaning. They all did excellent. At this age, they all are very passive when it comes to bathes and the blow drying. It is when they get older, it is harder for them to stay still.
After bath, they each had their Victorian Chamber Pot Photo Shoot. They did very well with this also. Holly's babies are going to be 6 weeks old tomorrow, Sunday. Hydrangea's baby is 6 1/2 weeks old. Diamond's babies will be 5 weeks old on Monday.
You can view the different photo shoots in the following nurseries:
Hydrangea's Nursery
Holly's Nursery
Diamond's Nursery
We also had a contest to name our newest future breeder which is Holly's female extreme face Chocolate Tortoiseshell Persian. Each of our Adoptive Families and the Families on our Priority Wait List got to vote for their favorite chocolate flower from a list. The winner was Hot Chocolate Iris. If you look up the flower on the web, it is the spitting image of the Tortoiseshell colors. Thank you everyone who took the time to vote for our sweet Iris's name. Her legal name will be Victoriangdn's Hot Chocolate Iris. I already started calling her Iris this afternoon.
We start Wait List picks on all four litters on Thursday. Any kittens remaining will be placed on the Available Kittens page.
We also want to notify everyone that Primrose (Doll Face Cream Persian) is going to be available for adoption. She just needs to be spayed first. We will list her on the Available Adults Page in the near future. Holly her daughter will take over the red gene reins from her mommy. Primrose will be six years old in August and that is the normal time for retiring a female breeder. She has given us beautiful, smart and wonderful kittens. She is famous for her videos, her protective mother instinct and her frown of disapproval if you bother her babies. LOL She is independent, loves to be petted but is not thrilled with being cuddled. I recently gave her a lion's cut and she looks adorable. She is on the EVO dry and is nice and lean with great muscle tone. She is looking the best I have ever seen her. Please let us know if you are interested in adopting her.
Monti (Extreme Face Cream Persian) is also available for adoption. He is our current Teaser Tom (vasectomy Tom). He just needs to be neutered prior to his adoption. Monti is about 4 years old. He will be listed on our Available Special Needs page in the near future. He is an absolute sweetheart. He is doing really well on his EVO food but still has some residual pain from his Stomachitus. He was never bred here. We received him from the breeder and he was in extreme pain back in Feb 2014. He has had all his teeth removed but his fangs within weeks of receiving him. When I found out Stomachitus was hereditary, I made the wise choice not to bred him. The removal of his teeth has helped with his pain level. He has gained quite a good bit of weight since arriving here. He is lean and tone and strong. He loves being a Teaser Tom with his large harem of girls but we will be replacing him. Sweet Isaiah will become our new Teaser Tom in the near future. He is definitely a loving lap cat. He has never sprayed once while he has been here. He loves to cuddle up to me on the couch and be petted. It could take a few months after his neuter for his male hormone scent to leave. He will need weekly bathes since cats with Stomachitus do have a hard time cleaning themselves. He has no problem eating the dry EVO or the dry Young Again food. Please let us know if you would be interested in adopting Monti.

Cattery Updates
June 1, 2015
Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the warmer weather. I am now getting ready for picks of the four current litters. It has been hectic here with four litters on the ground. Pansy's litter of three are all potty trained and weaned. Her Himi is the only hold out for transitioning from wet food to dry food. Believe it or not, they will be 9 weeks old this coming Saturday and will have their first set of vaccines on Saturday. They have already had all their dewormings. Time has flown with this litter. They have definitely been one of the easiest litters I have had. They will be ready to go to their new homes starting on July 3rd.
Hydrangea and I have had our hands full with six mouths to feed in her three litters. I am still supplemental feeding all of her three litters three times a day. It doesn't leave much time for anything else. I have been working on weaning them for the last two weeks without much success. I think the supplemental feedings spoiled them. LOL. They are a good looking group of kittens. Hydrangea's Blue Bell finally started eating wet food on her own Saturday. Yeah! She will turn 7 weeks old on this coming Wednesday. Holly's red and cream have been sniffing it but still holding out. The cream will lick some of the wet food. Holly's babies turned 5 weeks old yesterday. Holly and Hydrangea's babies are now potty trained. Yeah! Diamond's babies just turned 4 weeks old today. I actually did see her bicolor potty in the pine pelleted litter today. YEAH. I can't wait to do away with the Feline Pine. It has tracked everywhere. So we are on the way with potty training that litter. Both of Diamond's babies are still on milk. Hydrangea's Blue Bell will be ready to leave on July 21st. Holly's babies will be ready to leave on July 25th. Diamond's babies will be ready to leave on August 2nd.
I have decided to do the picks for all four litters at the same time. I think this will be the fairest and least stressful way for the Priority Wait List. I will be starting picks on June 11th, a week and a half away. On June 11th, I will email the first family on the Wait List (those who are picking) for their pick and go through the Wait List till I run out of kittens or I run out of families. Any remaining kittens will be placed on the Available Kittens page.
I am hoping at the end of the week, to do several more videos and get some updated pictures. Everyone will be able to see how the kittens look now and how they play on video. Activity level is definitely picking up with Hydrangea's gang of three litters. She has been terrific at taking care of all six babies born at three different times.
The only kitten out of the four litters that is staying at the Cattery as a future breeder is Holly's chocolate tortie. She will bring outstanding characteristics to my chocolate program, including being a dilute carrier, cute personality, great eater and extreme face.
I don't know when the next litters will be born. Petunia and Rose were put with Toy but it is too early to know yet if they got pregnant. I do plan on taking Hydrangea, Holly and Peony down for a HCM scan at The Sound Cat as soon as Hydrangea's gang is weaned. Primrose will be spayed and retired soon. She will be made available on the Available Adults page. Pansy has been in consistent heat so she will be bred to Willie soon as I don't want her getting a uterus infection from not being bred soon enough. I think that about covers all the updates. It definitely has been a busy time!

PERSIAN HCM STORY
by
Donna Riggins
May 19, 2015
I hope every Persian and Himalayan pet parent, as well as every Persian and Himalayan breeder out there, will take the time out of their busy schedule to read Donna's story. HCM is alive and well in the Persian and Himalayan world, whether or not people want to admit it. I want to thank Donna personally for writing her article and getting the word out about this disease that her cat, Fuzz, and her family live with on a daily basis. I will be writing an updated HCM article in the next two weeks. It is my recommendation that EVERY Persian or Himalayan cat over the age of TWO get an HCM Cardiac Ultrasound. It does not matter who or where you got your cat from. My recommendation is that ALL Persian/Himalayan/Exotic cats get this scan. It is the only way, at this point of time, to know IF your cat might have HCM. As I have said many times, my Vet, Dr. Williams said that 40% of Persian and Himalayan cats out there now have HCM. That is a staggering figure. It means one out of every 4 Persian/Himalayan/Exotics now have the disease. The earlier HCM is diagnosed, the quicker your cat can be placed on the appropriate medicine that may possibly extend his or her life.

Pansy's Six Week Old Kitten's Victorian Chamber Pot Photo Shoot
May 18, 2015
The kittens are doing great! They are weaned now and are potty trained. They have full access to the Toddler Room and are taking advantage of it by running everywhere. This litter has terrific personalities. They now run up to me as soon as I enter the room and want to be held and loved. That is so special. Enjoy their Victorian Chamber Pot Photo Shoot in Pansy's Nursery 2015.

Cattery Updates
May 17, 2015
It has been one very extremely busy last 3 1/2 weeks. We have been delayed in getting Pansy's babies Chamber Pot Photo Shoot done. They turned 6 weeks old yesterday. Time goes by so fast. All three are rambunctious and happy kittens. Believe me, it is harder to do the Photo Shoots as they get older since they are usually wanting to jump out and play. Pansy's Red and White already makes the Chamber Pot his favorite sleeping place. Yesterday, I gave them full access to the Toddler Room, except where Hydrangea's gang is. We will be posting the photos from the Photo Shoot on Monday in Pansy's Nursery 2015.
Hydrangea's babies are all doing great. Hydrangea's baby is now 3 1/2 weeks old. I have already started to wean her. Today she went potty in the litter box. Hopefully by the end of the week, she will be well on the way to being weaned and potty trained. We have enlarged to the space in Hydrangea's area since most of her babies are now out and about walking. Holly's babies are doing great. I just started them on wet food yesterday. I can not say they really like it at this point since most of the babies are spitting it out. Mid-week, we will start to see if we can potty train them. Diamond's babies are growing bigger. They now have their eyes open. They turn two weeks old tomorrow. I am still hand feeding all of them. It looks like Hydrangea's milk is going low so I am stepping up and feeding more. It will be nice when all the gang is weaned and potty trained.
We hope to be publishing several articles this week as well as getting some video of Pansy's babies in action and hopefully Hydrangea and Holly's babies. For now, please enjoy the slide show of candids we have taken of the gang in the last few days. Excuse the milk all over their little faces. I guess I am not the best mommie when it comes to cleaning those little faces. LOL.

Feline Cardiomyopathy In Cats
Video By Dr. Karen Becker
May 14, 2015
Here is an excellent article and video on HCM in cats by Dr. Karen Becker. I was pleasantly surprised at the end of the article when she states: "Because amino acid deficiency (a dietary shortage of meat-based protein) can fuel this condition [HCM]. I strongly recommend all my patients consume a human-grade, meat-based diet, and eliminate all fillers such as grains and unnecessary carbohydrates that cats don't need in the first place."
So please make sure your babies are being fed a high protein diet that is grain free and low in carbs.

Cattery Updates
May 10, 2015
The webcam is finally up and running in the Toddler Room for our Adoptive Parents and our Priority Wait List. Pansy's babies are already climbing up and using the first cube of the pink playstation to sleep in. I only had to show them one time how to get up there. Now it is their favorite napping place. They self potty trained with not one accident. These babies are smart.
Hydrangea and Holly's babies came down to the Toddler Room last night and had a great night. They are separated from Pansy's babies by a fence. It is tight quarters with all the toys, babies and fences. Today I made the decision to remove Diamond's babies from her since she was not caring for them or for herself. Hydrangea went right off to cleaning them up for me. I brought Pansy over to help. She immediately sat down and started helping nurse Hydrangea's babies. These two mothers have been lifesavers for me. And to think that Hydrangea is a first time mom. I think she will beat all my other mothers as the best mom. She is amazing. I had just fed Diamond's babies so they are sleeping. I have a dehumidifier running in the room to keep it dry and warm. Thank goodness Pansy still has milk since she is stillnnursing her babies but was trying to wean them. I have been feeding her babies wet food and I do believe some of them are eating the Young Again Little Bits. It is a relief really to have Diamond's babies finally getting the care they need. Diamond didn't love on them and clean them at all. I was hand feeding them round the clock. I am feeling less stress knowing that that they are in loving and capable paws. Hopefully in a week, I can start weaning Holly's babies. Believe it or not, Diamond's Bicolor is almost the same weight at Holly's Chocolate Tortie. He is huge. You should see the size of his paws. Hopefully they all will blend together well.

EVO TURKEY AND CHICKEN CAT AND KITTEN DRY FOOD
May 9, 2015
After doing extensive research on grainfree cat foods and having an ample amount of time in testing this food with my Cattery gang, including and very importantly my pregnant girls, I am now recommending EVO Chicken and Turkey Cat and Kitten Dry Food. My Cattery gang is doing great on it as well as all my pregnant girls. I still recommend Young Again but this is an alternative to Young Again that I would like you all to know about. I will be posting a Grainfree Dry Cat Food Comparison Spreadsheet at a later time showing the advantages of feeding Grainfree EVO Turkey and Cat Dry Food. Here are some of the main advantages: It is 50% Protein and 22% Fat which is the same as Young Again. It is one of the lowest in Carbohydrates at 12%. It is Grainfree. YEAH! It is quite inexpensive if you buy it on sale for 30% off at Petflow or Pet360 on line. (I am waiting for them to have a 30% off sale soon). My cats all love it and that is really making a statement. Kittens as well as cats can eat it making it easier for feeding multigenerational family cats. The cats have less stools implying that more of the food is kept and stored in the body. My cats have great body tone on this food. I love their muscle tone on this food. The cats stools do not stink like they would on Young Again. My cats do not throw up on this food. Also any loose stools I had from antibiotic therapy were done away with on this food. I love this food!! The only two drawbacks that I see: It does have some fruits and vegetables in it and EVO has had recalls in the past like many of the other companies. They seem to have the lowest ratio of fruits and vegetables out there. Cats and kittens do not need fruit and vegetables in their diet. As for the recalls, you will need to keep an eye out for any throw ups or problems with your cats while on this food as with any food. Remember, recalls are always after the fact so you would need to be proactive. If you don't want to buy on line, you can find EVO at independent pet stores like Phydeau in Cary or Chapel Hill in the Raleigh area. I prefer buying on line at the two stores listed above. EVO also makes an extremely high protein wet food which we have not yet tried but plan to in the future. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Holly Babies Candid Photos
May 8, 2015
Yesterday, we got some candid shots of Holly's babies. This is a beautiful group of kittens and Hydrangea is a wonderful mother to them. They will be 2 weeks old this coming Sunday. They are getting prettier and prettier every day. I think the Himi is starting to show a little orange on his tail. So he is either a Cream Point Bicolor Himalayan or a Cream Point Himalayan. Since white and cream are so close in coloring, we will all have to wait awhile to find out which he is. His is now starting to take the lead as the biggest of the three but not by much.
We also put in some pictures of Diamond's Black and White Bicolor boy from yesterday and a group shot. They are doing well now and nursing on mom and being supplemental fed while she builds up her milk supply.

Hydrangea and Holly's Babies First Video
May 6, 2015
Hydrangea's beautiful Blue and White Bi-Color Extreme Faced Female Himalayan is 14 days old today. She was born via C-Section. She loves to eat and overeat. She just started playing today on her 2 week birthday. If she sees me or hears me or smells me enter the Nursery, she starts crying for her milk. Her mom, Hydrangea, a Seal Point Himalayan, is an excellent mother but has three other mouths to feed. So we are helping Hydrangea by supplemental feeding some of them. The other three babies are 11 days old and are our Chocolate Hollyhock's (Holly's) babies. On Day 3 of their lives, we gave Holly's babies over to Hydrangea to nurse and love. Holly is just over one year old and this was her first litter. She stills acts like a kitten. She just was not the best mom this time around so we did this in order for her babies to have the very best care. Hydrangea loves them like they are her own. For her, they are her babies. Holly has a Male Doll Face Himalayan. He is either a Cream Point or Lilac Point or those colors in a Bi-Color Himalayan. We probably will have to wait a few more weeks to determine his color. She also has a Male Red Persian Extreme Face. He is a handsome fellow with a nice broad head. He will not take to the syringe supplemental feedings. He wants only Hydrangea's milk. Next, but definitely not least, is a rare Chocolate Tortoiseshell Extreme Faced Female Persian. She will be staying at the Cattery as a future breeder. She also knows when I am in the room and cries till I feed her. She, as well as Hydrangea's daughter, eat like little piggies. In about a week, Hydrangea's daughter named Blue Bell will start the weaning process and potty training process. It will be quickly followed by Holly's babies. All babies have the same father, Stepp'nstone L'il Toy Drummer. We hope to get Hydrangea and Holly's Combined Nursery 2015 created in the next week. Diamond and Miracle's Babies
and
HCM Scans
May 4, 2015
It has been one very busy day today. A large gang from Victorian Gardens Cattery left this morning at 6:45 a.m. to head down to The Sound Cat in Wilmington, NC. It is a three hour drive away. For the first three hours, there was a whole lot of crying going on. On the way home, complete and peaceful silence. Primrose, Rose, Petunia and Miracle all went down for their HCM scans. Thank the Lord, all HCM scans were negative, meaning normal hearts. YEAH!! We had a very in depth and thorough talk with Dr. Williams regarding HCM. In the next week or two, we will be updating our HCM article and also writing Joseph's Story. It is very important that ALL Persian and Himalayan pet parents as well as breeders read these updated articles. One clarification that I would like to make now ... according to Dr. Williams, 40% of ALL Persian and Himalayans cat now have HCM, NOT, HCM is in 40% of Persian and Himalayan lines. This clarification is huge for every Persian and Himalayan pet owner. My advise to every Persian and Himalayan pet owner, no matter where you got your cat from ... please have your cat scanned for HCM as soon as they reach 2 years old. If caught in the early stages, a cat's life expectancy can be increased by use of the proper and inexpensive medications available now. If your cat or kitten has a heart murmur, get your kitten or cat scanned immediately. Remember, every 4 out of 10 Persian and Himalayans have HCM according to Dr. Williams. It is critical to get your cat scanned at 2 years of age. You can find HCM clinics in your area by going to our HCM article and clicking on the Sphinx link at the bottom of the page. If you live within a days drive from Wilmington, I would highly encourage you to go to The Sound Cat for your scans. Dr. Williams deeply discounts her scans over what other Vets/Cardiologists charge. She does this because she is doing her part to try to have every Persian and Himalayan cat HCM scanned. She cares about this breed. If anyone has any questions about my recommendations, please contact me.
Diamond also went down to The Sound Cat. She was on Day 63 of her pregnancy. I wanted a pregnancy x-ray to ensure that the babies were not too large to come out. Well I am glad I did. She had one baby whose head was 33 and her girth was 31. The baby weighted 144 grams. So Diamond had a C-Section while we were down there. She had two beautiful extreme faced kittens. She had a Black and White Bi-Color Male Persian and a Black Female Persian. Dr. Williams spun Diamond's blood to get serum to be put in the Colostrum powder I had brought with me. Wow. How amazing is that? These babies will have ampted up virus protection from their mother's blood serum. Awesome. The male is already nursing. I have been hand feeding both the Colostrum/Serum to get them off to a good start. I have to babysit Diamond since she has never been the best mom. I have already caught her once sitting in her litter box away from the babies. So it will be a night where I will be up watching and making sure she does her mommy thing and also hand feeding the babies. The male Persian is solid and so heavy built. I will try to get some photos tomorrow of the babies.

Cattery Updates
May 2, 2015
We have made it through a very busy week at the Cattery. I was hand feeding both Hydrangea's baby and Holly's babies round the clock. Holly was not being the greatest mom, so Holly's babies were given to Hydrangea to nurse and take care of. Hydrangea had to slowly build up her milk production. Hydrangea has definitely gotten her stride in the last two days. She is now nursing the group without too much intervention or too many supplemental feedings from me. So last night was the first night in a long time that I was able to sleep through the night. Yesterday they were moved to my bathroom since Pansy's babies were trying to climb in their bed.
Pansy's babies turned 4 weeks old today. They were moved down to the Toddler Room this evening. They have all new toys to play with. The Himalayan is doing great at eating wet food. The others are trying the wet food if you put it in their mouth. Hopefully by the end of the week, they will all be eating wet food on their own. They are still potty training. As soon as I brought the wet food in for them, Pansy decided it was time to try to force them to wean. She then promptly went in to heat. The webcam is now set up in the Toddler Room for our Priority Wait List to view the babies live. We have another camera coming this week and we will be putting it in Hydrangea's Nursery. They can be watched at the same time.
Diamond is going down to The Sound Cat on Monday to have a pregnancy x-ray. She is due on or after Tuesday. We want to make sure her babies are not too large to be delivered naturally. Last pregnancy, she had one baby that got stuck in her and she had to have a C-Section. We are trying to avoid that scenario this time. We will be prepared for her to have a C-Section on Monday at the Sound Cat if it is felt necessary. My preference is for her to have a natural delivery at home.
While we are down at The Sound Cat, Primrose, Little Miracle, Rose and Petunia will all have their regular HCM ultrasounds.
So we will have another busy week ahead. We will plan on getting a photo shoot of Pansy's babies and of Hydrangea and Holly's babies sometime during the week. We will also try for some videos. Now that the hand feeding is slowing down, we will have more time to get to the photos and videos.

Holly and Toy's Red Persian Newborn
April 29, 2015
Holly's Red Persian male newborn definitely has the Classic Tabby stripes "M" on his forehead and bullseye going on. The Cattery's original girl's line, which Holly is part of, does not have the Agouti gene or Tabby gene in its line. It has the non-Agouti gene, which means that the tabby coat is masked by the (red) coloring though at times you will see some tabby markings. A good example is Toshi, a Flame Point Himalayan. His tail shows tabby markings so the non-Agouti gene is not masking completely the tabby stripes. We did not have a DNA test for the Agouti gene done on Toy, this baby's father. He just got the DNA PKD test. All red Persians are tabby in coloring when they are born. A true Tabby is one that has the Agouti gene. So we really can not be sure if he is a Classic Tabby Red Persian or a Red Persian. The only way to truly find out is to pull an Agouti gene DNA test on him or his father. So for now, we are calling him a Red Persian. This big boy is fattening up and starting to look very promising with his broad face. We think he will be an extreme face with probably the deeper crease lines and a smaller nose pad. Stay tuned to see more pictures of him and his siblings.

Pansy's 3 Week Old Kittens Video
April 28, 2015
Pansy and Toy's kittens turned 3 weeks old this past Saturday. All are Bi-Colored, with a Blue and White Persian, Red and White Persian and a Blue and White Bi-Color Himalayan. These are very sweet babies just like their mother. We will be starting the potty training and weaning as time allows this week. We are working now on getting the Toddler Room ready for them. Tonight we put out their Feline Pine litter box. Today they got to try the Young Again Little Bites which they promptly spit out. LOL. We will start them this week on our Homemade Cooked Chicken Wet Food with the Young Again CarnivoreRaw Supplements. I had a lot of little helpers today when I was in the Nursery. They just grow up so fast. Enjoy the newest video on our YouTube channel by clicking the link below.

Cattery Updates
Candids Of All Three Litters
April 27, 2015
As many of you know, Hydrangea had her babies on April 22, 2015, via C-Section. I have had a very hard and exhausting last five days. We lost three of Hydrangea's beautiful babies within the first 36 hours due to pneumonia. I, personally am putting the blame straight on the shoulders of the new local Vet who gave them to me chilled in a plastic bowl with a old bath towel. No heating pad at all. I touched them and they were all cold. The Vet had refused my help when I first got there with Hydrangea, nor would he let me come in to watch. They did not even give me the babies until they gave me Hydrangea, 45 minutes after the C-Section. So the babies probably were chilled for 45 minutes. Needless to say, I will NEVER be using that Vet again!! When I got them the babies, I immediately rushed them out to my incubator with my heating pad and plugged it in to the inverter in the car and drove home with the heater on full blast.
I am devastated by the loss of these three precious lives. I have never had this happen to a litter before. My poor Hydrangea didn't even get coherent till 12 hours after the surgery and did not get full use of her back legs till 24 hours after the surgery. I would definitely say that this Vet did not have a clue about cats or Persians and Himalayans. It is obvious he gave her way too much anesthesia. I did everything possible in my arsenal for those babies when I got them home, but it still was not enough. I try my hardest to never loose any babies for any reason. After nebulizing with antibiotics and giving them antibiotics internally as well as sub-q fluids and aspirating them, poor Hydrangea and I had to watch them gasping for breathe for hours.
The black and white bi-color girl extreme face of the litter was outstanding. Probably one of the best the Cattery has ever produced. The solid cubby extreme face boy was outstanding also. The two strongest went down first. All that is left is the Himalayan. When a newborn baby kitten gets chilled, their intestines and stomach can not absorb. I didn't know that. I fed them throughout the day and they kept screaming and then they all went quiet. I didn't know why they were screaming. I just assumed they were hungry. They were on a heating pad and warm even though Hydrangea was not with them. She was out of it and could not move her back legs. They stopped eating after the second feeding. I could not really get the Himalayan to eat. He just wanted to nurse and Hydrangea did not have any milk. That saved his life. Since their birth, I have been hand feeding the Himalayan 24/7, round the clock. On Sunday, the baby started to nurse on Hydrangea but she still runs out of milk quickly. I have her on special medicine to help with her milk production and it is working. At first I had to put the baby on the nipple with some formula on the nipple to get her started but now most of the time, she finds the nipples on her own. It has gotten better and Hydrangea is now starting to produce more milk. I am still hand feeding the baby but with more time in between feedings. Hydrangea feeds till her milk is gone. She is an absolutely excellent mom, just like her mom, Peony was. I felt so sorry for her when she knew her babies were dying. It was a nightmare to watch. I felt so helpless and I am sure she did too. The Himalayan girl which I have named Victoriangdn's Blue Bell tried to find her siblings and was going all around the birthing bed looking for them. It was all heartbreaking. She is a gorgeous baby. Every day she gets more breathtaking to me. Toy and Hydrangea are definitely a good match because they have created some outstanding babies. You can see her picture above in the candids that were taken today. It is looking like she is a Blue Point Bi-Color Extreme Faced Himalayan. I would have said a Blue Cream but that is not what Toy and Hydrangea can produce together.
Now for some more upbeat news ... Holly had her three babies Sunday between 11:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. She just popped them out with no screaming like Primrose and Pansy does. They are small babies. I had to finally put her in a birthing cage so she was forced to stay with them. I then moved her in the Nursery with Pansy and Hydrangea. I am having to hand feed them every 2 to 3 hours 24/7. Hopefully in the next few days, I can wean them off the syringe and onto nursing on their mom. Tonight I even saw Holly cleaning them. She had not done this before so I know she is learning by watching how Hydrangea and Pansy take care of their babies. Here is what Holly and Toy's litter consist of:
One Red Male Persian with lots of Tabby Markings
One Chocolate Tortoiseshell Female Doll Face Persian
One Doll Face Himalayan
Diamond's babies are due next week. I will be taking her down to The Sound Cat in Wilmington next Monday for a pregnancy x-ray to determine how many babies she has and if they can all pass safely through the birth canal. Her last litter she had to have a C-Section because the babies head was larger than Diamond's birth canal girth and the baby got stuck in her. So this time we are going to try to avoid an occurrence of that. My best guess is she is carrying 2 kittens but you never know. In the last week, her weight gain per day is taking off. I know the babies or at least one of them, are bothering her since you can sometimes hear her make noise when it gets painful. When I put my hand on her womb today, some little baby sure has a lot of strength. For all I know, there could be giants in there. LOL I can now see why she sometimes makes noises and growls. It must be very uncomfortable with the hard kicks someone is making.
For your enjoyment, please see the candid shots I was able to get yesterday and today of all three litters. I also was able to get a video of Pansy's three week old kittens which I will work on putting up on the Cattery's YouTube channel.
Since life is extremely busy right at the moment, I will blog when I can catch my breathe and catch up on my sleep.
Hydrangea and Toy's Babies
April 22, 2015
Hydrangea's babies are now here. It did not go as planned but then what in life does. Today was Day 66 or 67 of Hydrangea's pregnancy and I was starting to get concerned. Around 8 a.m. this morning, she started to show signs of the first stage of labor. Around 9:30 a.m., she was starting to have hard contractions. At 10:45 a.m. she was exhausted from pushing and no baby had showed up. I was starting to worry that a baby might be stuck in her. I called our new local Vet about 15 to 20 minute drive away. Hydrangea was wisked away for a C-Section and I was left to wait it out in the car. It didn't take long before they showed me the first baby. It was a very large rambunctious black Persian. We stayed at the Vet till around noon and then had the short drive home. I don't think Hydrangea would have been able to delivery these babies on her own. They were just too big for her smaller frame. I think one baby is the third largest born at our Cattery. Hydrangea's nonpregnancy weight is usually around 6.12lbs. So she is the smallest of all my girls. Most of the girls range from 7 to 8 lbs.
Hydangea was still under the effects of the anesthesia all afternoon and into the evening. Unfortunately, Hydrangea can not walk on her back legs though she is trying. She is showing no interest right now in her babies. She just is interested in trying to walk but keeps falling on her back legs. I have been syringe feeding her babies all afternoon. Around 5 p.m., I solicited my precious Pansy to come in and be with the babies and clean them and comfort them. She is always willing. She is my go to mother in a pinch. Hopefully Hydrangea will feel well enough tomorrow to start cleaning and feeding her babies. Hopefully she gets full movement back in her back legs.
Toy and Hydrangea had the following babies:
Black and White CPC Bi-Color Extreme Faced, Female Persian - Long hair, small ears
Black CPC Extreme Faced Male Persian - Very heavy boned and cobby, long hair and small ears
Black CPC Doll Face Female Persian - Long hair, laid back
Himalayan - Possibly Chocolate, Possibly Extreme Faced
Once Hydrangea is feeling better and is taking care of her babies, we will get a video and some pictures. It looks like an all nighter of hand feeding babies tonight.
Pansy and Toy's 15 Day Old Babies Photo Shoot
April 19, 2015
The babies are doing great and had their first photo shoot today on Day 15 of their lives. You can view the photos by going to Pansy's Nursery 2015. The Red Bi-Color has been starting to try to walk for days now, which is amazing. During the Photo Shoot, I was making noise and he came walked right up to me. He is one very smart boy. They all have opened their eyes this past week. They were moved to a new Nursery today that has nice bright natural light. They will have daily walk abouts as they learn to walk. The male Himalayan had me stumped on his coloring. He is showing some blue points but then other spots are white. His nose pad is not slate blue as in a blue point. The same applies to his toe pads. He is definitely a boy so he is not a blue cream. So that only leaves him being a Blue and White Bi-Color Himalayan. It means that his Himalayan points will be blue and white. It is hard to find any pictures on the internet for a Blue and White Bi-Color Himalayan kitten. CFA does not even have a class code for these special color types but breeders are working on getting the class recognized. Since his nose pad is pink, he should have a white inverted "V" on his nose and face like his siblings, but his will only be on his Himalayan mask. His ears are blue. One side of his body, his points are blue and the other side is white. It will be very interesting to see him develop. The female Blue and White Bi-Color Persian now has a cute gotee, similar to Diamond's black gotee. You can view the Photo Shoot by going to Pansy's Nursery 2015.

CATTERY UPDATES
April 14, 2015
Pansy's babies are doing great. They doubled their birth weight by day 7. Their eyes are now starting to open. Their bodies are nice and chubby. Mommy is doing really well also. We installed our webcam in Pansy's Nursery the other day so that our Adoptive Families and the Priority Wait List could watch the babies live. For the first two weeks, most newborns are sleeping or nursing most of the time so there is not a lot of interaction but that is soon to change. In the last few days, I have seen Pansy's babies start to play. They are not quite playing with each other but are playing by themselves. Several love to have their belly's rubbed. Tonight, I saw the Red Bi-Color starting to clean himself. They will be moved to another Nursery that has a bright window in it on Saturday as we await the arrival of Hydrangea's babies. I am planning on having Hydrangea and Hollyhock raise their babies together and help one another. Both are first time mothers but have one great thing going for them ... they had great mothers as an example. Both girls are use to each other and their babies should be about a week apart. We will try it but may have to back away from it if any one of the mothers appear to get upset with the arrangement. Right now I feel Hydrangea probably is carrying 4 to 5 kittens and Holly probably has 3 to 4 kittens. If this is the case, they will need the extra room that is in the Nursery that Pansy and her babies are now in. When Diamond's babies are born in the first week of May, hopefully Pansy's babies will be toddling and ready for the Toddler Room. It is going to be a very busy next couple of months at the Cattery for sure. We are trying to hurry up and finish all the last minute projects and getting our yard work and vegetable garden planted in the next few days so that we can devote a large portion of our time and attention to these wonderful litters. We will try to get Pansy's babies first photo shoot done once they have their eyes completely open, which I expect will be by the end of the week. So stay tuned.

5 Day Old Persian Newborn Already Kneading Dough
April 9, 2015
You ask why is this so incredible ... well ... in all my years of breeding, I have never seen a newborn, especially one this young, kneading dough as it nurses on mom. Yes, kittens do knead dough but at much older ages, not normally within the first week of life when they are newly born. Watch as this very happy and very healthy 5 day old Red and White Bi-Color CPC Persian male purrs and kneads dough on his mother Pansy. He actually started purring on Day 2 of his life. This is one very smart baby and one I predict will be a lap kitten. Yesterday for instance, he was rolling around well I was rubbing his belly. He is so very young to already being doing this. Pansy is making this litter a breeze to have. You could not find a better mother. Overnight in a 12 hour period, each baby gained from 8 to 15 ounces. This is the amount of what an average kitten should gain for the full 24 hour period. We are loading up more pictures of this litter today. You can see more pictures of this baby and his siblings in Pansy's Nursery 2015. You can view the video in Pansy's Nursery 2015 or through our YouTube Channel. Pansy's Babies - Day 2
April 6, 2015
Pansy's 2 day old newborns are fattening up nicely. Pansy's milk should come in tomorrow,Tuesday or Wednesday, and their weight will really take off. Today, they each gained between 8 to 11 grams on mom's Colostrum and no supplemental feeding. YEAH!! Pansy is a trooper and an excellent mom. I can't believe how quiet these babies are when they nurse. The only action besides nursing is the Bi-Colors wanting each other's nipples. Here are some of the pictures I took today of the cutie pies. I think they are all going to be doll faced kittens but will really have to wait till their eyes are completely open to tell for sure. The Bi-Colors were already born will nice long fur. I was looking on line last night at red and white and blue and white Persian kitten pictures. Oh my, the Red and White Bi-Color Persian kittens are gorgeous. It was hard to even find many pictures of a Blue and White Bi-Color Persian kitten. I can't wait till these babies develop. The Himi is just starting to show some ear color but it is still too early to tell. I am hoping for the Cattery's first Blue Point HImi. My gut tells me it might be a Flame Point. As it is, this will be our first Red and White Bi-Color kitten and our first Blue and White Bi-Color Kitten so I am very happy. Stay tuned for more news and photos, including a video.

PENELOPE'S SPECIAL PAGE
April 6, 2015
I have just completed Penelope's special page under the Adoptive Persian and Himalayan Kittens pages today on the website. Penelope is Pansy's first Black Tortoiseshell Persian. She is a Pansy and Willie baby with the cutest personality. She is a sweetie as you will hear from her new mom, Schann Westbrook. Yes, Schann's name is very familiar at our Cattery. She is a photographer under the name of Purry Paw Prints. You can find her photography throughout the Cattery website. Little did she and her daughter, Summer, know that when they came for a fun playday at the Cattery, they would fall hard for Penelope. Schann adopted Tabitha, a Black Tortoiseshell Persian from Primrose and Willie's Spring 2014 litter. Penelope left the Cattery on December 19, 2014 for her new home with the Westbrook family. I hope you can stop by her special page and get to know the Westbrook family and Penelope. There you will also see the slow and patient journey that Penelope and Tabitha have taken in getting to know one another as friends. It is another success story in slowly blending a new kitten into the household of another cat, especially one weighing 11.2 lbs. Yes, Tabitha weighted in at 11.2 lbs at one year old, which was three times the size of Penelope when she arrived at the Westbrook home. Penelope's page is filled with pictures, and email updates from Schann since the day she left here. You will also find current pictures of beautiful Tabitha. I really miss this cutie pie.
You can find Penelope's Special Page by clicking the highlight.
You can also find it by going to the Adoptive Persian and Himalayan Kittens page and following the subcategories.
Hope you enjoy getting to know the Westbrook family and Penelope.

HAPPY EASTER
FROM VICTORIAN GARDENS CATTERY
We just love this time of year ... new birth ... new life. Trees are budding and flowers are coming up. What is happening outside the walls of Victorian Gardens Cattery is happening inside the walls of Victorian Gardens Cattery ... new birth ... new life. It is such a wonderful time.
Yesterday, Saturday, April 4th between the hours of 4:40 p.m. and 8:40 p.m., Pansy delivered three healthy babies. We were expecting more and actually left her in the Delivery Room into the wee hours of the morning thinking just maybe she was not quite done delivering. Well, I guess she is through. The babies are doing great. All are nursing and gaining weight. It is nice not to have to supplement feed. Pansy is doing the best I have seen her after a delivery. All three of her babies are about the same length. Some had more fat on their bones in the womb. These are going to be big cats by the size of their paws. They nurse quietly. I am not quite sure on the sex of a couple of them. Of course, colors can change over time as red might come out in coats. But so far, here is what the babies coats look like: Red and White Bi-Color Male CPC Persian, Himalayan Male (Color to be determined) and a Blue and White Bi-Color Female CPC Persian (This may change to a Blue Cream if red shows up later in the coat). I was able to get a few pictures today. I will set up Pansy's Nursery 2015 in the next few days and will post more pictures and videos there.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Easter.
Susan

INDY AND SOPHIE'S SPECIAL PAGE
April 4, 2015
I have just completed the combined special page for Indy and Sophie under the Adoptive Persian and Himalayan Kittens pages on the website. Indy and Sophie are from Pansy and Willie's 4th litter born September 16, 2014. They both are Extreme Faced Seal Point Himalayans. One thing is for sure, Pansy and Willie always have the most precious and smart kittens. Indy and Sophie are no exception to that. They both are such sweeties. Bonnie Jones fell in love with them the first time she came to the Cattery. They left the Cattery on December 14, 2014 for their new home with Bonnie Jones. Believe me, these babies are spoiled rotten. Bonnie took the previous month before picking them up to purchase almost ideal play toys, playstations, fountains etc that the Cattery used. She even got two Sleepy Pods for her precious babies ride to their new home. Come take a peek in to Indy and Sophie's life with Bonnie Be sure to read her special March 4, 2014 "Snip It" From The Life of Indy and Sophie". You can go directly to the page by clicking on the link or you can go to the Adoptive Persian and Himalayan Kittens page and follow the subcategory links through to his page.
Hope you enjoy getting to know Bonnie, Indy and Sophie.

BLACK DIAMOND'S CARTIER SPECIAL PAGE
April 3, 2015
I have just completed Black Diamond's Cartier's special page under the Adoptive Persian and Himalayan Kittens pages today on the website. His nickname is Cartier. There is a special story behind his name. You can read about the story on his special page. Right from birth, this little boy was the sweetest little thing and gentle. Black Diamond's Cartier is Diamond and Little Miracle's baby from their first litter together born on August 28, 2014. He got his massive coat and sweet personality from his father. Cartier left the Cattery on November 29, 2014 for his new home with the multi-talented deBeixedon-King family. I hope you can stop by his special page and get to know the deBeixedon-King family and Cartier. Cartier's page is filled with pictures, and email updates from two members of the deBeixedone-King family since the day he left here. You can also find pictures and videos of Cartier being shown at the February 7,2015 Newport News CFA Cat Show in our CFA Show Gallery. Dianne did a great job of showing him.
You can find Cartier's Special Page by clicking the highlight.
You can also find it by going to the Adoptive Persian and Himalayan Kittens page and following the subcategories.
Hope you enjoy getting to know the deBeixedon-King family and Cartier.

ASPEN'S SPECIAL PAGE
April 2, 2015
I have just completed Aspen's special page under the Adoptive Persian and Himalayan Kittens pages today on the website. Aspen was our first Bi-Color Persian born at our Cattery. At birth she looked the spitting image of her mother, CH Stepp'nstone Diamond. Aspen is Diamond and Little Miracle's baby from their first litter together born on August 28, 2014. She was a very beautiful and totally unique kitten. Aspen left the Cattery on November 26, 2014 for her new home with the Tracy family. I hope you can stop by her special page and get to know the Tracy family and Aspen. The Tracy family are no strangers to our Cattery. In the summer of 2013, they adopted Joel Maxwell (Max), a Pansy and Willie baby. See the journey that Max and Aspen have taken as companions to each other. It is another success story in slowly blending a new kitten into the household of another cat, especially one weighing 11.2 lbs. Aspen's page is filled with pictures, and email updates from Aspen's family since the day she left here. Aspen is completely loved for the unique kitten that she is. We love that!! You will also find current pictures of beautiful Joel Maxwell. He is huge and sweet as pie. He is also the spitting image of another Pansy and Willie baby from last year ... Saffron.
You can find Aspen's by clicking the highlight.
You can also find it by going to the Adoptive Persian and Himalayan Kittens page and following the subcategories.
Hope you enjoy getting to know the Tracy family and Aspen.
Cattery Updates
April 1, 2015
I am writing this jot from the Cattery's delivery room, aka: my bedroom, as I await the arrival of Pansy's babies. Pansy is doing great and is quite calm. This leads me to believe her babies delivery will probably not be today. I am keeping a close eye on her. She usually starts getting pretty restless near the end and crying a lot. You can see and feel her babies kicking. I am sure she will be glad when they arrive.
It appears that Primrose's body has absorbed her babies and she is not longer pregnant. She now appears to be in heat. Of course, the die heart that I am, I will wait till her delivery date and just make sure. It could have been her age and the quality of her eggs that caused it to happen. We will never know. I will let her have one more try at pregnancy before spaying her. Her six year birthday is in August. This appears the time frame when breeders usually retire a female breeder. I do want her to have one more try since she so loves being a mom.
Hydrangea is doing very well. She has now surpassed Pansy in the percentage of pregnancy weight gained. Another way of saying, what Pansy has gained to date is what Hydrangea has already surpassed. WOW! Remember Hydrangea still has 2 1/2 weeks more to go. She will probably beat all our records unless some of her babies are reabsorbed due to overcrowding. I will be bringing her up to the Delivery Room after Pansy's babies are settled in their new Nursery. Currently she is with the other pregnant girls and Isaiah in the Main Cattery Room and Toddler Room. I can't wait to spend a lot of quality time with her and her very cute round belly. Holly's percentage of weight gain is starting to pick up though I don't think she will get anywhere near what Hydrangea's percentage is.
Our newly Championed Diamond is also pregnant by my very sweet Champion Little Miracle. I wasn't going to post it quite yet because I think the bathes and CFA Show were very stressful for her. Her weight dropped a week after the show. So I was worried she might have lost her pregnancy. Her weight is now picking back up and she is still pinked up. Her delivery date is around the first week of May.
I wanted to tell everyone about a great new toy that Carol Doyle (Noah's mommy) gave recommendations on. It is "Da Bird". Well, I did go to Phydeau in Cary, NC and purchased one with an extra long stick. Let me say, I have never seen so many cats so interested in a toy at the same time. They truly can not get enough of it. I actually sit on the couch and twirl the "Da Bird" around the room. The total length is about 6 to 8 feet. The cats go flying and jumping and I mean everyone is in attendance. They absolutely love it. It actually looks like a bird flying as it goes around the room. It even sounds like a bird while it is in motion. When one of the cats grabs it in its mouth ... well you would think they actually had a bird in their mouth. They absolutely refuse to give Da Bird up. They growl. They hold on to it for dear life. I think this is one of the best toys I have ever had at my Cattery. You can find them on line and in pet stores. They also have replacement parts since cats really do think it is a real bird. The Da Bird is inexpensive. We got ours for $6.99. The picture is from Doctors Foster and Smith website.
As soon as I am able, I will blog about Pansy's delivery. Here is too praying for a safe delivery of healthy sweet precious kittens.

AVAILABLE KITTEN
SWEET ISAIAH
EXTREME FACE CREAM CPC PERSIAN
DOB: October 6, 2014
MOTHER: Victoriangdn The Perfect Primrose
FATHER: Stepp'nstone's L'il Toy Drummer
Show Quality
$1100.00 Includes Neuter Fee
Isaiah was going to stay at the Cattery as a future breeder to replace his father, Toy, who was being very reluctant to breed. We now have three pregnancies due in April from Toy. So we are going to hold off and see if we can get Toy's replacement from a breeding of Toy and Petunia, which will be a complete outcross to our girl's line. We have been very busy and unfortunately are just now posting Isaiah's availability as either a breeder or pet. Isaiah has a beautiful long coat with the cutest long ear tuffs and small ears. His eyes are already a deep copper and will continue to get even better as he ages. He is a cubby boy with nice short legs. He is very heavy boned. Isaiah loves, loves, loves to play. He loves the laser mouse, da bird, the wand or anything you will play with. He would be a great playmate for a child. He has his mother's personality of not being a lap kitten. He wants to be petted but he does not like being held. He will sit beside you on the couch. He gets along great with all the cats at the Cattery, including are very hormonal girls. LOL. His favorite sleeping place is the plastic shoe box. He is a very sweet gentle boy. He loves his stroller walks when it is nice weather outside. He is easy to care for. He will need his face cleaned once a day. He is teething now so his eyes tend to tear up. He has had all his vaccines for the year. He had his Vet check at 12 weeks old. We have discounted his price from our normal Show Quality price since he is now 5 months old. His price does include his neuter fee. He will be neutered before leaving here and once he is under contract with his forever family. We would love to see him shown at CFA shows but that is not a condition of his adoption. If you are interested in Sweet Isaiah, please read our Prices and Policies page first and then fill out our Kitten Application. You can see more of Sweet Isaiah by going to Primrose's Nursery 2014.

Our Newest Champion
CH Stepp'nStone Diamond of Victoriangdn
March 22, 2015
Yesterday, March 21, 2015, Diamond and I went to the Raleigh Coastal Paws Cat Club CFA show. Diamond was at first a little hesitant with the first judge. By the end of the show, she was very mellow. She got her six winner's ribbons at the show and is now titled by CFA, a Champion. She did not get the pleasure of going to any finals unfortunately but neither did her competition in the Bi-Color Class. She was one exhausted girl by the end of the day. Lila and Dave, parents of the Flame Brothers (Jonah and Toshi), came with their friends, Liz and her son Samuel to the show. Samuel was able to hold Diamond. He is a great lover of all animals. We had a nice time together. Then Carolyn Doyle, Noah's mother, came and spent the afternoon with Diamond and I. She too took her turn loving on Diamond. I so appreciated the company of my families at the show. It just made it such a more enjoyable day. Thank you for coming and supporting Diamond. Above is a few pictures of the day. Within the next few days, I will be publishing videos of Diamond in the judging rings. Diamond was up against a blue and white bi-color cat whose father was CFA's Best Kitten in 2009-2010 and National Winner. The Best Kitten back in 2009-2010 was GC, NW KUORII GORILLA OF CUZZOE. As it so happens, a kitten from Cuzzoe was up against our Lord Camelot the First when he was shown in his first kitten show back on November 28,2009. So you can say Diamond's competition was tough. Diamond was one exhausted girl by the end of the day. Diamond can now relax and enjoy only the occasional bath as she has earned it.

Raleigh CFA Cat Show and Updates
March 19, 2015
If has been a very busy week at the Cattery as I rush around trying to get things completed on the Cattery Guest Bathroom remodel. This bathroom will also be an extra Nursery that will be needed this year. I finally finished the bathroom remodel this afternoon after 5 trips today to the local Hardware Store for supplies. LOL. I was able to get the project done in less than two weeks. Of course I had great motivation knowing that the litters will start arriving in less than two weeks. Next week I will be preparing Pansy's Nursery and then Primrose's Nursery and trying to get everything caught up around here. I know that as soon as the first litter arrives, there will be no more projects for quite a while. I want to spend as much time with the litters as possible. I love just laying on the floor in front of the birthing bed and watching the babies nurse and see how they interact with their mommy and siblings. It is a special time.
The Coastal Paws Cat Club has its CFA Cat Show this Saturday at the Raleigh Fair Grounds. The time is from 9:00 to 5:00. I will be taking Diamond to the show to get her 6 winner's ribbons and hopefully her Championship status. I hope that some of the families in the area will be able to come to the show and cheer Diamond on. Tomorrow is her final bath and grooming for the show. It is a two day show so if you can't make it on Saturday, it is also on Sunday. Diamond is only registered for the Saturday show. If you go, please stop by and say hello. You can find us by looking for our pink table with the "V" on it. It will be right in front of our show cage. If you don't see us, we may be at a judges ring. Hope to see you there.

Pregnancy Updates
March 15, 2015
I know it has been a while since I sent out a pregnancy update. This time I was slow at the gun because I am embarrassed at my stupidity. I didn't think Stepp'nstone's L'il Toy Drummer was doing his job at mating. I know that Monti, my Teaser Tom, was doing his job. Monti's job is to mate and help release the eggs in my girls or to get them out of heat when not being bred to one of the sires. Monti is sterilized so he can not produce babies. I have a camera set up in Toy's room so I can watch him to see if he is mating or what he is doing. Believe me, the girls would be screaming at him and he would walk right by them and not pay them any mind. I don't know how ... but almost all the girls I put with him have gotten pregnant. I would have never wanted this many girls pregnant at the same time believe me. It was hard enough with the three litters last Spring 2014. It definitely was a mistake on my part and I am extremely embarrassed by it. It is going to be an extremely busy time here at the Cattery starting in April and going through June.
Anyway, Pansy's pregnancy is doing great and I believe she has quite a few kittens. She is due on April 1st, so it is right around the corner. Primrose is doing good. I am unsure of how many she is carrying but it is not as many as Pansy is carrying, at least according to weight. Hydrangea is on par with Pansy weight wise so I believe she has quite a few kittens also. She is a first time mom and I don't think she quite knows what is going on yet with her body. She was upset during her stroller ride today so I know she must not be feeling normal right now. She is due April 19th. And this past week, I got a big surprise in finding out that Hollyhock was pregnant by Toy. This one stunned me. She is due around April 26th.
You can read about the colors that can be produced from each pairing by going to the Adoptive Kittens page. I have it listed out there. Hollyhock will give every color under the rainbow.
I am busy remodeling the downstairs Cattery guest bathroom so it will be available for a Nursery. I am hoping that Pansy and Primrose will raise their babies together like they did last Spring. I always love watching them help each other out with their babies. The first week, they will be separated but then I will try to blend them when Primrose's babies are a week old.
I am still shaking my head. This will never happen again ... more than 2 litters at one time. Thankfully I have my Teaser Tom that will help me spread out the pregnancies across the full year from now on. A hard lesson learned about not assuming that a sire is not doing his job.

How to Trim a Persian or Himalayan Cat's Mane or Ruff
A VICTORIAN GARDENS CATTERY YOUTUBE VIDEO
March 6, 2014
We recently had an Adoptive Family ask us to make a video on how we, at the Cattery, trim a long Persian cat's mane or ruff. Today we did a lion's cut on our The Perfect Buttercup. Buttercup has an extremely long cotton coat and gets shaved at least twice. She loves the feel of being shaved. She loves being petted after she has been shaved. Buttercup is a five and a half year old Cream Point Himalayan from our first litter. Buttercup lives at the Cattery as our forever cat. After the lion's cut, we took a video of how we trim her long mane or ruff using an Arco Cordless Shaver. Buttercup did not want to cooperate in standing up during her mane or ruff trim. It is much easier to accomplish if you have a cat who will stand up during the trim or another person who can hold them up for you while you trim. We have provided photos of before and after Buttercup's Lion Cut and Mane Trim above as well as the after photos of Little Miracle's Lion Cut and Mane Trim from last year.

I have just completed Noah's special page under the Adoptive Persian and Himalayan Kittens 2014 page. Noah is one of Diamond and Willie's boys from Diamond's first litter on April 30, 2014. Please come read about Noah and his new family, Carolyn, Mike and Miss Cleopatra. It took Miss Cleopatra awhile to adjust to Noah and his rambunctious side, but as the very recent picture above shows, Cleo is now making room in her heart for Noah. On Noah's special page, you can read about how he is doing since he left the Cattery on July 27, 2014 to live with his forever family, as narrated by Carolyn via email or Facebook posts. There are also pictures that have been sent in by Carolyn either through email or on Facebook. Come take a peek in to Noah's life at Carolyn and Mike's home. You can go directly to the page by clicking on the link or you can go to the Adoptive Persian and Himalayan Kittens page and follow the subcategory links through to his page.

BELLADONNA'S PAGE
March 4, 2015
Well, I am finally starting to work on the Adoptive Kittens Pages for 2014. Today I did Belladonna's special individual page. She is Diamond and Willie's girl from Diamond's first litter last year (April 30th). I hope you can all take a look at the page. It includes all the pictures that Lori Pierce has sent in on Bella, including two videos, text messages, emails and Facebook posts. This page sums up how completely loved Bella is in her new home and how completely spoiled she is. I love it when my families spoil my babies.
I am going to try to have all the Adopted Kittens 2014 pages done by April 1st, which is when Pansy's litter is due. It is a shame it has taken me this long to start them, but it was an extremely busy year last year and then I got very sick with the flu and bronchitis this year. So sorry Fall 2014 families. Your babies pages are coming soon. I so appreciate all my families sending me emails, pictures and Facebook posts.
Hope you all enjoyed a warmer day today. It was in the 70s here, so I broke out the stroller and took four babies for a stroll. When we got back, I left them outside in the stroller while worked outside starting my vegetable seeds in pots to be taken inside till it is warmer. I was even wearing a tank top. Now tomorrow we may have ice. Go figure.
Here is the direct link to Belladonna's page on our website. It can also be accessed by going to Adoptive Persian & Himalayan Kittens 2014 and going through the subcategories till you get to her special page.
Hopefully tomorrow I will get to another new special page for one of Bella's siblings.

The Perfect Peony - Tortie Point Himalayan - D. Russo Photography
It has taken us well over 1 1/2 years to be able to be willing to let our beautiful Peony be adopted into her forever home. She is a doll. Peony only had one litter and had to spayed due to an infection that was caught during her C-Section. Peony's father is Camelot, a sweet lap kitten. Peony is a very sweet lap kitten herself. We are looking for a certain type of family for Peony's forever home. We are looking for a stable single person or a couple that has no other pets and children in the family. We are looking for a quiet and peaceful home for her. Peony has the typical Tortoiseshell personality. Just Google Himalayan Tortoiseshell personality to find out about it. It is unique to Tortoiseshells. Peony loves to be cuddled and loved but is not fond of having to share her special place with other pets. This may be because she was brought up in a Cattery. She loves to cuddle with me under the covers or knead dough right beside me in bed. She loves playing with my fingers and hand under the covers. She will give as much love as she gets. Peony is a beautiful Female Tortie Point Himalayan with an extremely beautiful and long coat. It does tend to mat unless she is groomed daily. Right now she is in a lion's cut and it should be very easy to keep her groomed when her hair grows out. Her body coat color did turn darker once she was shaved, so it could take a couple of seasons for it to come back as cream. She is a smart little girl who loves to chase the laser light up and down the walls and doors. She has extra long ear tuffs and toe tuffs. She is a doll face with a flat face but not an extreme face. Part of Peony's contract, will require her family to have her get an HCM ultrasound every 2 to 3 years and to provide the results to the Cattery. This requirement is because Peony is one of our foundation breeders and her offspring is now breeding at our Cattery. We want to ensure we continue to keep a HCM scanned negative Cattery. Until a DNA test for HCM is developed for Persians and Himalayans, scanning is the only way to ensure that our Cattery continues to be negative for these horrible disease. The information on the scans are invaluable to our Cattery. With that said, I would like to find Peony's forever home within a days drive from the Cattery or The Sound Cat in Wilmington. We are hoping that her scans can till be done at The Sound Cat. If interested in Peony, please fill out the Kitten Application as thoroughly as possible giving as much information as possible about your home and family. She is current and update to date on all vaccinations.
CATTERY UPDATES
February 22, 2015
Today Sweet Obadiah left us for his new family with Nick, Chrissy and their two girls from Morrisville, North Carolina. That had been interested in Obadiah for a while but due to my getting the flu and bronchitis, their visit had to be postponed. Sweet Obadiah and Sweet Isaiah are very close brothers and I am hoping both boys make the adjustment to being without each other fairly easily. It will probably be easier for Obadiah than for Isaiah. We are waiting to hear how Obadiah did this afternoon on his car ride home and how he is adjusting to his new family. This is the first pet for this family of four. Obadiah seems very taken to Nick. It might be a guy thing going on. I have to admit, Obadiah was looking so good with his very long ear tuffs and his big beautiful fluffy white coat and light orange point color. Primrose and Toy made one very handsome litter.
We are considering letting Sweet Isaiah be adopted in the near future. With the possibility of having Toy mate to Petunia, we may have a chance of a complete outcross for our girl's line. This would allow Toy to be petted out since he is a reluctant breeder. We had been keeping Sweet Isaiah as a future breeder just in case Toy refused to bred in the future. With Petunia, we would have a total outcross and hopefully a male that has a higher nose pad than Isaiah currently has. So please keep an eye out for when Isaiah might be available. It will all depend on Toy at this point.
This week, after almost 1 1/2 years, we will be making Peony available to be adopted. It has been so hard to let her go but I know she would be happier being the only cat child in a home. It always seems hardest to say goodbye to my retired girls. Peony had her first and only litter in May, 2013. She gave us Little Miracle and our beautiful Hydrangea. She had to be spayed during her C-Section due to a uterus infection. It was such a sad day when she got spayed. Peony's father is Camelot, the one who is responsible for all those Pansy lap kittens. Yes, Pansy's father is Camelot also. Peony is a gorgeous Tortie Point Himalayan with one fabulously long coat. She also is the only cat in my girl's line that has those fantastic long ear tuffs. She definitely has the Tortoiseshell Tortitude going on. You will have to do a Google search to see what that means. Peony has loved living in my bedroom since her babies grew up. She is a prima donna and knows she is. She loves having my one on one attention in my bedroom. She loves cuddling under the sheets with me or playing with my hand under the sheet. She is a creature of habit and likes everything to be status quo. She is just so cute. I am looking for a special home for her where she will be the only child in a childless home. She will give as much love as she gives. She would be perfect for an older single person or a married couple with no children. I will be listing her as available on the Available Adults page sometime this week.
Now for the pregnancy news:
Pansy and Toy are now expecting their first litter on approximately April 1, 2015. Here is the range of colors she can have with Toy. They can be Persian or Himalayan colors.
Girls: 25% Black, 25% Blue, 25% Black Tortoiseshells, 25% Blue Tortoiseshells,
Boys: 25% Black, 25% Blue, 25% Red, 25% Cream
Primrose and Willie are now expecting their next litter on approximately April 7, 2015. Here is the range of colors she can have with Willie. They can be Persian or Himalayan colors.
Girls: 75% Black Tortoiseshells, 25% Chocolate Tortoiseshells
Boys: 100% Red
We will post more pregnancies as we have them confirmed. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Breaking Out The Stroller
Show Videos Are Now Published
Feb 9, 2015
Today was a beautiful day outside. In this house, we are so looking forward to Spring. Today we got a little glimpse of it as the temperature hit the mid to upper 60s. So I decided to break out the stroller for a nice long walk. This was Sweet Obadiah and Sweet Isaiah's first stroller walk. Along for the ride was Hydrangea and Petunia with Wisteria on a leash. I must say, the boys did excellent. Isaiah laid right down like it was old hat. Obadiah just kept looking around, not scared of anything. It was the first time that the boys meet Hydrangea and not a word out of any of them. I truly was amazed. I guess it was all that new environment that let them adjust to each other without a problem.
The CFA Newport News videos of Petunia and Cartier in the judging rings are now up on our YouTube page. Tomorrow we will also put them in our Show Gallery. I think you will see what I mean about some of the sweet judges that were there and that I mentioned by name in yesterday's blog. Here are the links to the videos. Enjoy

CFA Show in Norfork, VA
Feb 8, 2015
Well, Petunia and I are getting our much deserved rest after yesterday's CFA show in Norfork, VA. We had a great day with Kathy Walker (Camellia and Hyacinth's mother), the Spain Family (on our Priority Wait List) and Neil, Diane and Kyle Debeixedon-King (Cartier's family). We almost blocked one isle with all our chairs in front of our Show Cage. We all had a great time. Cartier, in my opinion, did better in the judging ring then Petunia. Diane had groomed him to perfection. Several of the judges noted his fur. We took videos of most of his judging rings and some of Petunia's judging rings. We will be posting the best ones up on Youtube later. Cartier was a big hit with his pod that Dianne had brought for him to sleep and escape in. He would pop his head out and check out the scene and then pop back in. It was funny. By the end of the show, he was very comfortable in the judging ring and in his Show Cage. He was a hit when he would hang out of his pod and play with the wand. Petunia was in heat during the show. I don't think this went over too well with the judges as she would go stiff and arch her back wanting to be mated as they would put their hands down her back. She was up against a Tehy cat that was already a Champion. That cat had one fur coat. I think we did capture the Tehy cat in some of the pictures. Petunia should get her 6 winners ribbons for the day and be a Champion now. I will have to send in the paperwork for it. We had some great comments from the public viewers at the show. One lady said she was stocking me down and wanted to tell me that Petunia was the most beautiful cat she had every seen. Another lady paid for a ticket to vote for Petunia being the best in show. There were other sweet comments also. So even though Petunia and Cartier did not go to any judge's finals, these sweet comments made it all worth it for me as well as the time spent with my families.
We are contemplating entering Diamond in the Raleigh CFA show on March 21st so she can compete as an Open going for her Championship. I will be starting her bathing routine this week. I should know in a few weeks if her fur looks in good enough shape to show. She is mat free but needs bathing on a regular basis to get it in tip top shape. I think Monti, our Teaser Tom, will be able to keep her out of heat till after the show. Its not like I don't have enough girls in heat right now or who have been mated. It is craziness around the Cattery right now.
We will start posting the best show videos in our Show Gallery along with the pictures of this show. The videos will also be on our YouTube page. We have posted a few pictures above to start. I must say, I was impressed by the kindness and gentleness of several of the judges to these kittens. I was very impressed with how Gary Powell handled Cartier and Petunia, giving them the due they deserved. I could see that Tracy Petty loved her job as Judge and loved cats and kittens. What a sweet expression and smile this judge had when looking at Petunia and Cartier. Even though it was kind of obvious to me that Persians may not be Pat Jacobberger's favorite breed, I was impressed that she talked about the history of the Persian breed and the Persian breed coat as she judged Cartier. He does have one beautiful coat Dianne. Thank you so much for letting it shine.
I want to thank Kathy Walker for driving long distance to help and at times babysitting the babies and ALWAYS being such a consistent support. You are so sweet and so generous with your time, support and love for kittens and cats. Thank you to the deBeixedon Family for believing in and loving your little boy so much you were willing to go through all the extra grooming and attention to show him off. He really showed his specialness to everyone who meet him in his pod. Thank you to the Spain family for babysitting and holding Petunia while I ran around all the rings trying to see who was up next. Thank you also for spending the time getting to know the Victorian Gardens Cattery family. I so appreciate you all!!

CFA Show and Cattery Updates
February 5, 2015
Victoriangdn's Black Velvet Petunia is getting ready for her show debut on Saturday. She is entered in the Open Class at the Paw Prints in the Sand CFA Show in Norfork, VA at the Knights of Columbus building. Victoriangdn Black Diamond Cartier is entered in the Kitten Class for the show and will be shown by his mom, Dianne. Kathy, the mom of Hyacinth and Camilla, will be attending again this year from Richmond to help lend a hand and have a fun day. Please keep your fingers crossed that both kittens will have an opportunity to final in the rings. Dianne has been preparing Cartier. I started preparing Petunia about 6 weeks ago. Of course, she would decide to go in to heat this week. I am hoping she will be through her heat cycle before Saturday hits. If you have time and would like to stop by the show, please come by our bench and say hello.
The Cattery has been hopping lately with one girl after another going in to their heat cycle. The only ones that have not been in heat is Hydrangea and Diamond. All the other girls have been bred or are being bred except for Petunia. This is Primrose's last day with Willie. Pansy was with Toy last week. We should know this weekend if Holly got pregnant by Toy. Rose was just put in with Toy this evening. WOW! It seems like this year, the winter is about a month behind what it was last year. Last year, I had girls going in to heat in early January. Maybe they know something we don't know.
There is a possibility that Sweet Isaiah may become available for adoption. I am waiting to see if Holly got pregnant with Toy. If she did, I am considering keeping one of her babies as a future breeder to keep Toy's line going. Since Toy and Holly together will produce all dilute and chocolate carriers and extreme faces, it would be a wiser choice for my Cattery to pick from this litter and let Isaiah be adopted. So if you were looking for a red/cream Persian, this may be the boy for you. So stay tuned.
Sweet Obadiah is still available. These babies are just getting so gorgeous as they mature. The previous pictures just do not do them justice now.

WEBSITE UP AND RUNNING & UPDATES
JANUARY 29, 2015
Our website is now up and running after changing Domain Host Companies. You should not be able to see any difference in the running of the website.
We have been getting our Victoriangdn's Black Velvet Petunia ready to be shown in the Newport News, VA CFA show on February 7. It will be her first show. She should come back with a Champion status. What will be the icing on the cake is if she makes it to any of the six finals. Dianne is bringing Cartier who is now legally called Victoriangdn Black Diamonds Cartier. He will be shown in the kitten class. We have some families coming to the show as well as one family on the Wait List. So if you are at the show, please drop by and say hello. I am sure Petunia will be glad when the show is over with and she doesn't have to be bathed all the time. Her coat is looking good, in my opinion. She is nice and cobby and heavy boned with a nice healthy extreme face. We wish Petunia and Cartier the very best wishes for the show.
We may have some pregnancies in the making. Please stay tuned in the next few weeks for news. We are no longer publishing pregnancies till we have them confirmed at 3 weeks. So stay tuned.

Victorian Carriage Photo Shoot
Primrose and L'il Toy Drum's
13 Weeks Old Kittens
January 4, 2015
The Victorian Carriage Photo Shoot of Primrose and Lil Toy Drummer's 13 week old kittens is now available for viewing in Primrose's Nursery 2014 and in the 2014 Photo Gallery. I must admit, Primrose's Bi-Color kitten named Duncan is, in my opinion, the cutest kitten we have ever had born at this Cattery. He has the biggest round eyes of any kitten to date. He is also going to have nice long beautiful ear tuffs and fur. His eye color is going to be great. Primrose and Toy did a really nice job on this litter. Sweet Obadiah, Primrose's Cream Point Himalayan, is still available for adoption. His ear tuffs are going to be nice and long too. His coat is gorgeous. We hope he finds the perfect home very soon. He is really turning in to a sweet kitten and talking all the time. We are contemplating taking Sweet Isaiah to the CFA Show in Newport News, VA on Feb. 7th. He would be registered in the Kitten Class and so would not be eligible for points towards a Championship. We may just wait till he hits his 8 month old birthday to show him. We will probably wait till the last minute to decide.

Primrose and L'il Toy Drummer's 13 Week Old Kittens Video
January 4, 2014
Watch Primrose and Little Toy Drummer's litter of three Cream boys as they chase after the laser "bug". They just had their bath and are wearing bibs in order to keep their fur ruffs clean before the Photo Shoot they will be having today. Primrose and Toy had Duncan, a Doll Face Cream and White Bi-Color Persian, Sweet Obadiah, a Doll Face Cream Point Himalayan and Sweet Isaiah, an Extreme Face Cream Persian. We are planning on showing Sweet Isaiah in a CFA Show in the near future. The boys turn 13 weeks old tomorrow. This is there last night all together as Duncan leaves for his new home tomorrow on his 13 week birthday. You can see photos of these boys in Primrose's Nursery 2014. Sweet Obadiah is available and you can read about him on our Available Kittens page. You can view the video by clicking on the link below.

DECEPTION IN THE PET FOOD INDUSTRY
The Third Installment in our Nutrition Series
January 2, 2015
Please listen to Dr. Karen Becker discuss with Dr. Mercola how deceptive is in the Pet Food Industry. You can see this in their marketing and in the ingredients in their pet food. She also discusses how Grain-Free doesn't mean Carb-Free. I hope all my Adoptive Parents and those on the Priority Wait List will take the time to listed to this excellent discussion. This is an important discussion for every pet parent to listen to. It is eye opening and very educational.
Again, I recommend my Homemade Cooked Wet Cat Food using the Young Again CarnivoreRaw Supplements with Calcium. My recipe is found on my website. The link to buying the supplements is also there. If you can not feed your cat or kitten the homemade cooked wet food, I wholeheartedly recommend Young Again 50/22 dry food. You can find out more about Young Again Cat and Kitten Food on the Cattery's website. Dr. Becker also talks about letting your cats see the outside in a safeway. The one thing I disagree with is the feeding of fruits and vegetables to cats or kittens. Cats and kittens do not need fruits and vegetables in their diet. They are carnivores meaning meat eaters.
THE BEST AND WORST CAT FOODS TO FEED YOUR CAT
The Second Installment in our Nutrition Series
January 1, 2015
Please watch Dr. Karen Becker's video on her Best and Worst Foods for your cats and kittens. She is specially referring to cats and dogs in the video. It is a great video for which I agree to almost everything in it, with two exceptions ... cats are not designed to eat fruit and vegetables. The other exception is on the raw and homecooked diets she mentions ... pet parents should be adding vitamin and mineral supplements to ensure that their cats and dogs get all the nutrients they need. I would recommend Young Again CarnivoreRaw Supplements for diets of raw or homecooked meats.
I hope everyone gets a chance to take the time to listen to this video from Dr. Becker. You can find information on the Young Again CarnivoreRaw Supplements on the Cattery's website, including the ingredients list. If you have any questions about Young Again or this video, please feel free to contact me.
We will be posting the third installment in our Nutrition Series tomorrow. You can find the first installment in our December Cattery Blog 2014. When we have completed our Nutrition Series, we will be placing all the installments on a special page on our website.
