CHESTER AND HIS SLEEPYPOD
UPDATED: December 31, 2022
To
Every so often, an item comes along that we would like to share with our families and cat lovers everywhere. This week we were introduced to the Sleepypod by Neil and Angela, a new family on our Priority Wait List. This was the first time I had heard of the Sleepypod. You ask, “What is a Sleepypod?” Well, a Sleepypod is a unique, frontal crash tested, pet carrier. According to the Sleepypod website, it uses a Pet Passenger Restraint System (PPRS). PPRS is a safety system designed to securely fasten pets in automobile seats during a sudden stop or collision. Each PPRS is put through stringent safety tests to include static material tensile testing and dynamic crash testing. Sleepypod PPRS offers a significantly safer way to travel for pet and human passengers alike.” The Sleepypod is a bed, a carrier and a car seat all in one. Your kitten/cat will use it at his home as a bed (without the top on). Then your kitten/cat will be accustomed to his bed when you make it in to a carrier and a car seat for traveling.
Neil and Angela used the Sleepypod for Chester, their 12 year old Seal Point Himalayan from another Cattery. Chester died Feb. 2014 from a genetic heart disease and the family was devastated at their loss. He was treated just like a human child would be treated and loved, and that includes, providing for his safety. Here is what Angela had to say about the product, “… we purchased a Sleepy Pod (round version) for Chester as it appears (based on my research) to be the safest mode for transportation, as it has been crash tested. Though it is so nice to have the cat on your lap while driving, it is just not safe because of the other not safe drivers in the world!! It is just too scary. So, often my husband or I would sit in the back seat next to the Sleepy Pod with Chester so that he had company in the back seat!!"
This is the first time I had heard of a crash tested pet carrier for the car. I must say, I was impressed. The Sleepypod just looks so comfortable and has additional items you can purchase. It costs a little bit more than a nice carrier but from the stand point of safety, I think it speaks for itself.
You can find out more information about the safety of the pet carrier as well as more information on the product at their website.

Thank you Neil and Angela, for sharing about your Sleepypod story. Thank you for introducing us to this product.
Update: Neil and Angela went on to adopt two of our rare Chocolate Tortoiseshell kittens back in 2015. They love their babies.
